SONY VGN NSxx Series Optical Disk Drive Replacement Instructions IMPORTANT PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU START These easy instructions are intended to guide you through the replacement process If you need additional help please call 1 866 651 7669 for technical support from 9 00 am to 11 00 pm EST v Before you begin place your notebook computer on a clean or covered surface to avoid damage to the computerscase v Follow the ESD Electrostatic Discharge damage prevention instructions o Hold partsby the edges away from exposed circuitry when possible o Do notwalk around excessively asthis promotes static build up v Remove jewelry before you begin work to avoid scratching the surface of your notebook computer v The appearance of the electronic components shown in the illustrations may be different from the components shipped This slight difference does not affect the accuracy of these instruc tions Sony is not resoonsble for any loss of data associated with your computer or any damage caused by incorect handling of the computer under these procedures The terms of your Sony limited warranty continue to apply Push left tab in the unlock position ODD Bay Step 1 Prepare the Computer ODD Removal Steps 3 6 AN Lift to remove Step 3 Locate the ODD Bay CAUTION Make sure the computer is turned off the lid is closed and the AC Step 2 Remove the Battery Pack Rotate the computer with the Opt2. ical Adapter is disconnected Failure to do so Disk Drive ODD facing you as shown can result in damage to the computer 1 Slide the left battery tab to the inthe picture unlock position Place the computer upside down on a 2 With your right thumb slide the protected surface with the front edge right battery tab in the release facing you direction and hold 3 Remove the battery by lifting the side where the arrow is pointing FOR TECHNICAL SUPPORT IN THE US CALL TOLL FREE 1 866 651 7669 FROM 9 00 AM TO 11 00 PM EST P N 994660100 Rev A 1 2 co VGN NSxx Senes Optical Disk Drive S ONY Replacement Instructions j T Y E hS m Step 4 Using the magnetic screwdriver Step 5 To initiate the removal of the ODD Step 6 With even force slide out the remove the three 3 screws securing the pull slightly the ODD door as shown in the ODD as shown Some force may be ODD picture required to unlock the ODD from the connector Step 7 Hold the new ODD assembly by the Step 8 Make sure the new ODD is seated Step 9 Secure the new ODD by re edges and align it with the opening flush on the edge of the computer installing the three 3 screws previously removed Step 10 Reinstall the battery pack Return the old ODD to Sony following the included shipping instructions FOR TECHNI CAL SUPPORT IN THE US CALL TOLL FREE 1 866 651 7669 FROM 9 00 AM TO 11 00 PM EST 2 2
