1. e Ifyou are connecting the HP Photosmart through a USB hub make sure the hub is turned on If the hub is on try connecting directly to your computer Check other printers or scanners You might need to disconnect older products from your computer Try connecting the USB cable to another USB port on your computer After you check the connections try restarting your computer Turn the HP Photosmart off and then on again e If necessary remove the software you installed with the HP Photosmart and then install it again For more information see Uninstall and reinstall the software on page 85 Information on paper The HP Photosmart is designed to work well with most paper types Test a variety of paper types before buying a large quantity Find a paper type that works well and is easy to purchase HP Premium papers are designed for the best quality results In addition follow these tips Do not use paper that is too thin that has a slick texture or that stretches easily It can feed incorrectly through the paper path causing paper jams e Store photo media in its original packaging inside a resealable plastic bag on a flat surface in a cool dry place When you are ready to print remove only the paper you plan to use immediately When you have finished printing return any unused photo paper to the plastic bag Always hold photo paper by the edges Fingerprints on photo paper can reduce print qu

S D Maintain the HP Photosmart 53 Chapter 9 Handle the print cartridges Before you replace or clean a print cartridge you should know the part names and how to handle the print cartridges Copper colored contacts Plastic tape with pink pull tab must be removed before installing Ink nozzles under tape Hold the print cartridges by their black plastic sides with the label on top Do not touch the copper colored contacts or the ink nozzles CH 5 CH S D ea 0 v E e Lg e o 3 D a E NOTE Handle the print cartridges carefully Dropping or jarring cartridges can cause temporary printing problems or even permanent damage Replace the print cartridges Follow these instructions when you need to replace print cartridges E NOTE When the ink level for the print cartridge is low a message appears on the display You can also check the ink levels by using the Printer Toolbox available through the HP Photosmart Software on your computer or through the Print Properties dialog box on your computer If you do not already have replacement print cartridges for the HP Photosmart go to www hp com buy supplies If prompted choose your country region follow the prompts to select your product and then click one of the shopping links on the page NOTE At this time some portions of the HP Web site are available in English only
