Attachment 1 Clean the bagger attachment refer to Cleaning the Bagger Attachment in Maintenance Inspect the bagger attachment for damage refer to Inspecting the Bagger Attachment in Maintenance Make sure the grass bags are empty and thoroughly dry Store the bagger in a clean dry place out of direct sunlight This protects the plastic parts and extends the life of the bagger If you must store the bagger outside cover it with a weatherproof cover 18 Troubleshooting Troubleshooting Important It is essential that all operator safety mechanisms be connected and in proper operating condition prior to mower use When a problem occurs do not overlook the simple causes For example starting problems could be caused by an empty fuel tank The following table lists some of the common causes of trouble Do Not attempt to service or replace major items or any items that call for special timing or adjustment procedures such as valves governor etc Have this work done by your Engine Service Dealer Note When disconnecting electrical connectors Do Not pull on the wires to separate the connectors Excessive grass blowout from the deck Tubes plug too frequently Bags are full Plugged screen in bagger hood Ground speed is too fast Plugged tube Conditions are dry Bags are too full Ground speed is too fast Grass is too wet Grass is too long Plugged screen in bagger hood Plug

4. accidents or injuries occurring to himself or herself other people or property Preparation e Evaluate the terrain to determine what accessories and attachments are needed to properly and safely perform the job Only use on machines approved by Exmark e Wear appropriate clothing including safety glasses substantial footwear long trousers and hearing protection Do Not operate when barefoot or when wearing open sandals e Inspect the area where the equipment is to be used and remove all rocks toys sticks wires bones and other foreign objects which can be thrown by the machine and may cause personal injury to the operator or bystanders Operation e Operate only in daylight or good artificial light keeping away from holes and hidden hazards e Never remove the discharge tube bags bagger top or discharge deflector while the engine is running e Never do maintenance or repairs while the engine is running e Never mow with the discharge deflector raised removed or altered unless there is a grass collection system or mulch kit in place and working properly e Stop engine wait for all moving parts to stop remove key and engage parking brake Safety Before checking cleaning or working on the mower After striking a foreign object or abnormal vibration occurs inspect the mower for damage and make repairs before restarting and operating the mower Before clearing blockages Whenev
5. drive too fast and the engine speed gets too slow On hills it may be necessary to slow the mower ground speed This helps maintain the engine speed and bagging efficiency A CAUTION As the bagger fills extra weight is added to the back of the machine If you stop and start suddenly on hills you may lose steering control or the machine may tip e Do Not start or stop suddenly when going uphill or downhill Avoid uphill starts If you do stop the machine when going uphill disengage the blade control switch Then back down the hill using a slow speed Do Not change speeds or stop on slopes Bagging Long Grass Excessively long grass is heavy and may not be propelled completely into the grass bags If this happens the discharge tube and chute may plug To avoid plugging the bagging system mow the grass at a high height of cut then lower the mower to your normal cutting height and repeat the bagging process Bagging Wet Grass Always try to cut grass when it is dry because your lawn will have a neat appearance If you must cut wet grass use the conventional side discharge feature of the mower Several hours later when the clippings are dry install the complete bagger attachment and vacuum up the grass clippings Signs of Plugging As you are bagging a small amount of grass clippings normally blow out the front of the mower An excessive amount of clippings blowing out indicates that the bags are full or the syst

8. you could damage the bagger s chute and discharge tube Cutting Height Do Not set the mower cutting height too low because long grass surrounding the mower can prevent air from getting under the mower and entering the bagging system If enough air doesn t get under the mower the bagging system will plug Cutting Frequency Cut the grass often especially when it grows rapidly You will have to cut your grass twice if it gets excessively long Cutting Technique For best lawn appearance be sute to slightly overlap the mower into the previously cut area This helps reduce the load on the engine and reduces the chance of plugging the chute and discharge tube Using Bag Liners Although not required bag liners may be inserted into each grass bag to collect clippings and make disposal more convenient Figure 9 If you use a bag liner remove the filled grass bag and close the top of the liner Then pull the liner out of the grass bag or turn the bag upside down while holding the handle on the bottom of the grass bag allowing the liner to slide out 6007511 Figure 9 1 Cloth grass bag 2 Bagliner Bagging Speed Most often you will bag with the mower throttle in the Fast position and drive at a normal ground speed However in extremely dry and dusty grass you may 13 Operation want to slightly reduce the throttle speed and inctease the ground speed of the mower The bagging system may plug if you

10. acking unit down a ramp to avoid tipping backward Loading a Unit Empty grass bags before attempting to load unit on trailer or truck Use extreme caution when loading units on trailers or trucks One full width ramp that is wide enough to extend beyond the rear tires is recommended instead of individual ramps for each side of the unit The lower rear section of the tractor frame extends back between the rear wheels and serves as a stop for tipping backward Having a full width ramp provides a surface for the frame members to contact if the unit starts to tip backward If it is not possible to use one full width ramp use enough individual ramps to simulate a full width continuous ramp Ramp should be long enough so that the angles between the ramp and the ground and the ramp and the trailer or truck do not exceed 15 A steeper angle may cause mower deck components to get caught as the unit moves from ramp to trailer or truck Steeper angles may also cause the unit to tip backward If loading on or near a slope position the trailer or truck so it is on the down side of the slope and the ramp extends up the slope This will minimize the ramp angle The trailer or truck should be as level as possible Important Do Not attempt to turn the unit while on the ramp you may lose control and drive off the side Avoid sudden acceleration when driving up a ramp and sudden deceleration when backing down a ramp Both maneuvers can caus

12. ding out by the front bracket and the spring holds the discharge deflector in the down position Refer to Figure 7 for proper orientation Important The discharge deflector must be spring loaded in the down position Lift the deflector up to test that it snaps to the full down position Installing the Bagger Move the motion control levers outward to neutral position disengage the power take off PTO engage parking brake stop the engine remove the key and wait for all moving parts to stop before leaving the operating position Slide the rod out of the short stand off spring and discharge deflector Remove the discharge deflector see Figure 7 Install the hood assembly onto the hitch Install the bags by sliding the bag frame hook onto the retaining bracket see Figure 8 1 G010694 Figure 8 Bag frame hook 2 Retaining bracket 10 12 Lower the hood onto the bags Insert the mount bracket tab on the lower tube assembly into the boot mount bracket as shown in Figure 6 Use the latch on the lower tube assembly to lock the bracket to the deck Adjust the tension on the latch to hold the bracket up to the deck yet allow for release by hand Slip the upper flexible tube into junction tube of the hood opening Install the front weight The lock rod has a key on one end Slide the lock rod through the weight support assembly notch in the weight and the oval hole in the frame bracke

14. em is plugged Transporting Transporting a Unit Use a heavy duty trailer or truck to transport the machine Lock brake and block wheels Securely fasten the machine to the trailer or truck with straps chains cable or ropes Be sure that the trailer or truck has all necessary lighting and marking as required by law Secure a trailer with a safety chain A CAUTION This unit does not have proper turn signals lights reflective markings or a slow moving vehicle emblem Driving on a street or roadway without such eguipment is dangerous and can lead to accidents causing personal injury Driving on a street or roadway without such eguipment may also be a violation of State laws and the operator may be subject to traffic tickets and or fines Do Not drive a unit on a public street or roadway Operation A WARNING Loading a unit on a trailer or truck increases the possibility of backward tip over Backward tip over could cause serious injury or death e Use extreme caution when operating a unit on a ramp Use only a single full width ramp Do Not use individual ramps for each side of the unit If individual ramps must be used use enough ramps to create an unbroken ramp surface wider than the unit Do Not exceed a 15 angle between ramp and ground or between ramp and trailer or truck Avoid sudden acceleration while driving unit up a ramp to avoid tipping backward Avoid sudden deceleration while b
